By the Tinto Tours team · published October 26, 2026

Our Cocora + Salento tour by Willys costs 200,000 COP per person from 4 people, and 700,000 COP in total for two thanks to the small-group rate, with hotel pick-up, tinto and entrance to the valley included. On your own, you pay on the spot for the shared Willys from Salento, and some trails cross private land that may ask for a contribution: bring pesos in cash.

In Cocora, the price of a day out depends mostly on one question: are you going on your own, or with a willysero who takes care of everything? Here is what you pay in each case, what is included, and the small costs people often forget.

A day in Cocora is not just one ticket. There is the ride to the valley, access to the trails, the meal, and often a stop in Salento on the way back. So before comparing prices, you need to know what you are comparing: a shared Willys ticket and an organised day do not cover the same things at all. Here is the breakdown, straight up, just as we explain it to our passengers over a tinto.

What you really pay to see the wax palms

Cocora Valley has no single ticket office. Some trails cross private land that may ask for a contribution on the spot. Where there is one, the amount changes from one season to the next: be wary of figures copied from blog to blog, they are often out of date by the time you get there.

The budget for a day therefore has four parts:

  • transport to the valley and back;
  • a possible contribution on trails that cross private land;
  • lunch;
  • extras, if you feel like it.

There are two ways to pay for all this: you pay for each part yourself, on the spot, or you book a tour where transport and entrance are already included.

Going on your own

In Salento, shared Willys head up to Cocora throughout the day. It is the simplest option if you are staying in Salento. Leave early: the first to arrive enjoy the valley before the crowds, and the return trip happens without rushing after the last departure.

If you are staying in Quimbaya or Filandia, it is another story: you first have to get to Salento, which adds a ride, a ticket and time. We have detailed every option in our guide Cocora Valley: how to get there from Quimbaya, Filandia or Salento.

Once up there, your budget depends on your route. A simple walk to the wax palm viewpoints does not cross the same land as the big loop through the cloud forest: ask locally before you set off. To choose your route before counting your pesos, read our tips for hiking in Cocora Valley.

A tip from a willysero: carry pesos in small notes. In the valley, you often pay in cash, and nobody likes hunting for change in the middle of a field full of cows.

A Willys tour, entrance included: the price line by line

At Tinto Tours, the Cocora + Salento tour costs 200,000 COP per person from 4 people; for 2 or 3, the small-group rate applies (details below). This price includes:

  • transport by Jeep Willys with your willysero, with pick-up at your hotel in Quimbaya, Filandia or Salento, at no extra cost;
  • the tinto at the start, on the square;
  • the entrance to Cocora Valley;
  • 5 free photos.

The typical lunch is optional. We leave at 8 am, walk among the wax palms, the tallest in the world, then stroll through the steep streets and past the colourful balconies of Salento. We are back between 4 and 5 pm. If you want to know what awaits you in the village, our article What to do in Salento in one day will set the scene.

For children, it is free from 0 to 3 years old. From 4 to 11, it is the adult price minus 30%, which is 140,000 COP.

On your own, as a couple or in a group: doing the maths

For 2 or 3 people, you do not pay for 4 seats: a small-group rate applies. A few examples, for adults:

  • for 2: 700,000 COP in total, which is 350,000 COP each;
  • for 3: 725,000 COP in total;
  • for 4: 800,000 COP in total, which is 200,000 COP each;
  • for 6: 1,200,000 COP in total.

Let's be honest: for two people, and if you are staying in Salento, going on your own usually works out cheaper. The tour really makes sense from 4 people, or if you are leaving from Quimbaya or Filandia and do not want to juggle connections.

For a group, also look at the Private Willys for the day: 650,000 COP per jeep, for up to 8 people, for 8 hours, on the route of your choice. The Cocora entrance is not among what is included, so count it separately. For 6 or 8 people, the maths is worth doing, and we are happy to do it with you on WhatsApp.

The small costs people forget

Even with the entrance included, keep a little extra for:

  • lunch, if you do not take the option: around Salento, trout often comes up on the menus;
  • extras in the valley: horse rides, viewpoints set up for photos, the hummingbird house. Each one is paid separately;
  • a tinto or a fruit juice back on the square in Salento;
  • a souvenir from the village's craft shops.

As for gear, there is nothing to buy if you have a rain jacket and good shoes. The mist rises quickly between the palms, and the path can be muddy after a shower.

Cancellation, weather, earthquake: what protects your budget

A booked tour should not turn into lost money. With us, three simple rules:

  • free cancellation up to 48 hours before;
  • free rescheduling if the road or the site is closed;
  • a full refund if we are the ones who cancel.

The rain, on the other hand, is part of the landscape. To choose your dates with full knowledge, check the weather month by month.

That leaves the question many travellers are asking us this year. The earthquake of 10 August 2026 hit Salento and part of the coffee region. A few days later, the Colombian press reported that the Willys were running and that Cocora Valley was welcoming visitors. Two months after the earthquake, the Salento authorities were still urging travellers not to cancel, because tourism services are still operating. We give regular updates in our article on the coffee region after the earthquake.

Our advice for paying the right price

If you are two, staying in Salento and like to find your own way, take the shared Willys and keep pesos in your pocket: it is the cheapest way to see the palms. If you are four or more, travelling with children, or staying in Quimbaya or Filandia, a tour where everything is included saves you the maths, the connections and the hunt for change.

And if you are still torn between the two great wax palm forests of the Quindío, our comparison Carbonera or Cocora will help you decide. Either way, the day starts the same way: a tinto on the square, then we climb into the Willys.
