Santa Rosa de Cabal hot springs: a practical guide
After a few days of dirt tracks and hikes in the coffee region, nothing beats a soak in hot water at the foot of a waterfall. The Santa Rosa de Cabal hot springs are the easiest relaxing day out to organise from the Quindío. Here is what you need to know to choose, get there and avoid the crowds.
Why make the trip to Santa Rosa de Cabal
Santa Rosa de Cabal is a small town in Risaralda, known for its hot springs, tucked away at the bottom of a forested mountain valley.
If you are staying in the Quindío, it is the perfect break in the middle of an active trip: after Cocora, Salento or La Carbonera, a day soaking in hot water rests tired legs, and children love it. Two places share the valley: Termales de Santa Rosa, the best known, and Termales San Vicente, more remote.
Termales de Santa Rosa: the balneario below the waterfall
Termales de Santa Rosa combines a balneario with a tall waterfall that drops right above the pools. It is probably the picture you have already seen: steaming hot water in the foreground, the falls in the forest behind.
Opening hours: open every day, from 6:30am to 11:30pm.
Packages: there are several, from simple entry (the Pasaporte Termal) to packages with meals or spa treatments. Details are on the official website.
Prices: the official website does not publish its prices. Through resellers, expect about 60,000 to 106,000 COP per adult depending on the date and package (2026 prices checked in October 2026). Confirm the price when you book, as it varies by day.
Weekend time slots: in high season and at weekends, entry is usually by time slot, at 6:30am, 11:30am and 6pm. Monday to Thursday there are no slots: you come in whenever you like.
Our tip: at weekends the pools are packed. If you can only come on a Saturday or Sunday, arrive right at the start of a slot, when the pools are only just filling up. And if your plans allow, pick a weekday: it is a different experience.
Getting there on your own
The hot springs are well outside town, at the end of a mountain road.
- From Pereira: about 25 km, roughly 1 hour.
- From central Santa Rosa: about 30 minutes, the last 2 km on a dirt track. A bus leaves the main square every hour from 6am, and shared jeeps leave from the market for about 6,000 COP.
- From Salento: about 1.5 hours by bus to Santa Rosa, then the jeep up to the springs.
It can be done, but the day quickly turns into a string of connections, especially with children or on the way back in the evening.
Termales San Vicente: more remote, check first
Further into the mountains, Termales San Vicente has pools, steam rooms and a thermal river. The setting is wilder and the access longer: about 32 km from Pereira, with a long dirt track from Santa Rosa. There is no public bus: you get there by Willys or on an agency shuttle.
As for prices, agencies listed about 80,000 COP per adult and 50,000 COP per child aged 3 to 10 (2026 prices checked in October 2026).
Important: since the earthquake of 10 August 2026, San Vicente’s opening has not been confirmed. Check before you go, directly with the venue.
Santa Rosa or San Vicente: which one?
- You want the waterfall and an easy day: Termales de Santa Rosa. It is open, easier to reach, and stays open from early morning until late at night.
- You are after peace and nature: San Vicente, provided you have checked that it is open and you do not mind the long dirt track.
- You are travelling with children: Santa Rosa, for the shorter journey. San Vicente does have a child rate for ages 3 to 10.
After the earthquake: are the hot springs open?
Termales de Santa Rosa is open, undamaged according to the press. For San Vicente, opening has not been confirmed so far. As everywhere in the region since 10 August, check roads and sites the day before you go. Our article on the coffee region after the earthquake sums up what is open.

- A weekday if you can: you avoid the time slots and the crowds.
- Evenings are magical: the balneario stays open late, and a soak under the stars has its charm. Just sort out your transport back.
- Some cash: for the shared jeep or a snack on site.
- Check before you go: prices and packages change; the official website and a quick call save you surprises.
